About Garden Room Guide

Welcome to Garden Room Guide

GardenRoom.Guide is a practical resource for learning about garden rooms, summer houses, log cabins, sheds, and garden buildings.

Whether you’re researching a garden office, comparing summer house ideas, or simply exploring ways to add extra space to your garden, our aim is to make the information easier to understand and easier to find.

Garden buildings have become one of the most popular ways to add flexible space to a home. From garden offices and gyms to studios, games rooms, and guest spaces, they allow homeowners to extend how they use their property without building a full house extension.

This site exists to help people explore those possibilities with clear and practical guidance.

How GardenRoom.Guide Started

Like many homeowners, the journey began with a simple question:

How do you actually build a garden room properly?

When the first garden office project started, it quickly became clear that reliable information was difficult to find. Advice often came from either house building forums or garden shed communities, but neither fully addressed the unique requirements of insulated garden rooms and modern garden buildings.

After spending hundreds of hours researching materials, foundations, insulation methods, planning rules, and utilities, it became obvious that garden rooms sit somewhere between a traditional extension and a garden shed.

They require their own set of knowledge.

That realisation led to the creation of GardenRoom.Guide — a place where practical information about garden rooms, summer houses, sheds, and log cabins could be brought together in one place.

The Founder

GardenRoom.Guide was originally founded by Phil, an avid blogger with more than 10 years of experience publishing websites and online guides.

Phil built his own garden office and began documenting the process, sharing what he learned along the way. Many of the early articles were created to answer the same questions he had while building his own garden workspace.

You’ll still find photos from Phil’s original garden office throughout the site.

Over time the website grew into a helpful resource for homeowners researching garden rooms, log cabins, summer houses, and outdoor garden buildings.

Recently, Phil decided it was the right time to pass the reins of the site on to someone new to continue developing the content and expanding the guides available here.

Meet Gary Green

Hi, I’m Gary Green, and I’m now the person behind the articles and updates on GardenRoom.Guide.

Like many of the readers who visit this site, I’m not a professional builder or architect. I’m simply someone who enjoys researching, learning, and sharing practical knowledge about garden projects and outdoor spaces.

Garden rooms, summer houses, sheds, and log cabins sit in an interesting middle ground between DIY projects and proper building work. There’s a lot to learn, and many homeowners are searching for clear answers before starting their own project.

My goal is to continue building on the foundation Phil created by researching new ideas, improving existing guides, and sharing helpful information that makes planning a garden building project easier.

You’ll find me updating articles, writing new guides, and answering questions that readers send through.

And if Phil ever happens to visit the site again, we’d genuinely love to hear from him and see how his garden office is getting on.
